Backhoe Thumb Plans
$11.95

Build a very versatile attachment for your backhoe from these detailed plans! This inexpensive and easy to build attachment will allow you to use your backhoe as a grapple to pick things up! Logs, stumps, brush, rocks, railroad ties, pipe, debris, scrap iron and many other items that are too heavy or bulky to lift by hand.

Features: Serrated teeth for a positive grip. 3 position strut arm bracket. Approximate total weight will be 120 lbs. The thumb can be removed or pinned back out of the way when not in use. These plans are for most full sized backhoes with a bucket length of approximately 40" long.

Size: The claw is approx. 40in. high by 12in. wide.

Plans Include: Parts list, step by step instructions, detailed CAD drawings, 3D drawings, fabricating tips and tricks and mounting instructions.

Skill Level: Moderate welding/torch and mechanical skills required. See note below for mounting thumb.

NOTE: The mounting brackets are welded to the arm of the backhoe and therefore require "out of position quality welds" - if you are uncomfortable with this type of weld, I suggest having a professional welder perform the mounting.

NOTE: If your backhoe's dipper arm is a cast metal, or un-weldable, additional fabricating will be required to mount thumb. Some alternative mounting ideas are included, however, final mounting decision will be up to buyer of the plans. May not work with Extend-a-Hoe type backhoes. Please consult your dealer or manufacturer.
